Mrs. Clinton will be tougher than Obama in East Sea policy

Mrs. Clinton is expected to make efforts to promote Mr. Obama’s policies in Asia.

`If she becomes the new US president, Mrs. Clinton will to some extent show more resoluteness in her policy towards China, especially the East Sea issue,` Professor Michael Desch, Director of the Center for Security

Mr. Desch’s assessment received the agreement of many US foreign policy experts, who are closely monitoring the fierce competition between Mrs. Clinton and Republican representative Donald Trump.

Mr. Philip Levy, a strategy expert at Northwestern University, USA, said that the Democratic candidate will pay great attention to the pivot policy of current President Obama.

`With her experience as a former secretary of state, she clearly understands the potential conflicts that could erupt in the East Sea. She will give this issue the attention it deserves,` Mr. Levy said.

Forecasting the trend of competition between the US and China in the East Sea if candidate Clinton wins the election, Associate Professor Trevor Thrall, an expert at George Mason University, assesses that the relationship between the two powers will remain the same.

`Mrs. Clinton will continue to maintain the Asia pivot policy to prevent China from controlling the East Sea. She strongly believes that the US plays a decisive role in the Pacific, similar to Mr. Obama,` he said.

Regarding the prospects of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), experts assess that Mr. Obama’s legacy still has a chance of being ratified by Mrs. Clinton despite many obstacles.

Mr. Thrall noted that the former secretary of state reiterated over the weekend that she would reject the TPP because it would cause `American workers to lose their jobs and their wages to decrease,` while speaking during a campaign in Warren, Michigan.

David Shulman, a senior economist at the prestigious forecasting organization UCLA Anderson Forecast, USA, assessed that the Democratic candidate will not support TPP as long as it has not been renegotiated on a number of points.

`This is going to be difficult,` Mr. Shulman said.

Agreeing with this opinion, Associate Professor Thrall said that Republican candidate Trump and Mr. Sanders have created a large anti-TPP sentiment in the US, so Mrs. Clinton may not be able to help TPP be passed at the same time as the

Mr. Levy said that the public needs to consider the TPP exactly as Mrs. Clinton stated, that the agreement needs to be renegotiated.

`I believe that Mrs. Clinton will make some changes in TPP to find points she can support, such as retraining programs to improve workers affected by global free trade.
